David weeps for Absalom

Wednesday, August 8. Read John 6:35, 41-51. Jesus says he is the bread of life. What image of bread comes to your mind—white? corn bread? whole grain? How does this affect your image of Jesus as living bread?

What is your living-bread image of Jesus?

Words from The Word: Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. -Ephesians 5:2, NLT

This Week…

Lectionary Texts:

Audio Lectio: Join us in praying the words from John 6:43-51.

Pray for: the people and countries of the United States of America and Canada.

Spiritual Tools: Engage in the restful practice of Soaking Prayer.

Quote:

The God who so loved us that Jesus was sent to incarnate that love has clothed us with unconditional regard.

Self-love can be encouraged in a variety of ways. Simple acts of mercy to oneself include adequate rest and a healthy diet, exercise, and perhaps leisure reading. Personal spiritual practices of prayer, journaling, devotional reading, and meditation foster healthy self-love, as does the experience of corporate worship. … By fostering my own spiritual well-being, I further the first spiritual friendship God gave me at birth — myself.

My church uses white flour pita bread for communion. So, I first think of that. But any other time I’m not a fan of pita bread. Thus, that bread doesn’t really do it for me. My most favorite bread in the whole world is banana bread. Just mention it to me and I can see it, I can smell it, I can taste it. For me our Christ is banana bread.
