A Stronghold in Troubling Times

Peace Be Still

Friday, June 22. Make a list of those forces that threaten you, your neighbors and the church. Read Psalm 9:9-20. What do these verses tell you about God? What do they tell you about the threats?

How will you ask God to be with you as you seek out your call in the world?

Words from The Word: David said to Saul, “The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of Goliath.” -1 Samuel 17:37, NIV

This Week…

Lectionary Texts:

Audio Lectio: Hear and pray the words of Mark 4:34-41.

Pray for: the people and country of Brazil.

Spiritual Tools: This week, try the Ignatian Method as a process of discerning God’s call to you.

Sooner or later, Christian spiritual growth puts you right up against the conflict between your voracious desire to stay in control and your call to surrender more deeply. Not all control is detrimental, of course, but you do need to give up trying to control the uncontrollable and learn to trust that all is in God’s hands.

Prayer: God of stillness, hush my fears so that I can hear your voice above the roar of the storms that batter my small boat. Amen.
