Tuesday, May 8. God invited Peter to try a new thing regardless of how scary and strange it felt.

When has God invited you to try something new and uncomfortable?

Words from The Word: Our love for God means that we obey his commands. -1 John 5:3, GNT

This Week…

Lectionary Texts:

Audio Lectio: Pray the words of John 15:9-15 with us this week.

Pray for: the people and countries of Sudan, South Sudan, and Uganda.

Spiritual Tools: Revisit The Examen as a powerful tool for discerning the call of God in your life.

Quote:

Gracious Lord, who called your church to witness that you were in Christ reconciling all people to yourself: gather all of your children around your table for the gospel feast and shape me in such a way by your Spirit that your invitation might be extended to all through me. Amen.

Simple answer, this year.
I was shown Upper Room Daily Reflections on-line. Then I started commenting.
I was shown Alive Now on-line. Then I started commenting.
I was told to take a “Walk to Emmaus”. Then I did.
Face Book announced a meditation writing contest. I entered. Then I was given a contract to be published.
I learned about the “Kairos Prison Ministry”. Now I’m going to prison.
All of this started by being outside my comfort zone.
Dear Jesus what a year this has been so far!
And, it’s only May.
What next O Lord? Nevermind. Here am I. Together we will do whatever You ask.
Praise the Lord!
Can I get an “Amen”? ;D

Many times. e.g. A number of moves to new jobs in new places. Sometimes, I’ve felt a great sense of adventure and excitement; other times it has been hard and I’ve spent a great deal of time in prayer about my response.
Many times he has led me into something I never would have offered to do, never imagined I could do. And then I’ve found him there in it all with everything I needed.
The death of my husband was the hardest, yet it was different in that I had no choice in the matter. The invitation was, I guess, to live this unexpected, frightening, new life with God , or do it my own way.
The wonder of it all is, that even presented with that ‘Invitation’, whatever it may be, whatever the situation, it is not easy to say ‘No’ to God, the Creator and Ruler of it all. Looking back, there was always really only one way I could go. I think maybe, that’s how it was for Peter.
