Praying the News

Jesus drives out the merchants

Friday, March 9. What did the news bring today? Is it heavy and depressing? Are there signs of hope anywhere? Pray for one story that speaks particularly to you.

What is your prayer for the news today?

Words from The Word: The Message that points to Christ on the Cross seems like sheer silliness to those hellbent on destruction, but for those on the way of salvation it makes perfect sense. -1 Corinthians 1:18, The Message

This Week…

Lectionary Texts:

Audio Lectio: Hear and pray along with the story of Jesus overturning the tables in the temple found in John 2:13-19.

Spiritual Tools: We all hear a lot about Fasting during Lent. Join us in exploring this spiritual practice this week.

Pray for: the people and countries of Andorra, Austria, Liechtenstein, Monaco, San Marino, and Switzerland.

If we picture all the obstructions between us and God as a wilderness, Lent presents us with time to clear and cultivate a part of that wilderness, to create an open space in it. In this newly opened space, we may live more freely and commune more closely with the divine. We can transform this wilderness and make it our home, our garden, a place that invites God in and asks God to stay.

O Lord God Almighty:
Maybe we should not pray that You strike down a human activity. When we read how seventy percent of our meat even bought from our most trusted grocers contains “pink slime” with no nutritional value and contains ammonium hydroxide used to kill e coli that can kill us we are sickened. We lift up this issue asking You to fix it. Show us how we can be an instrument of Your love to fix it.
In Jesus name we pray.
