Thursday, August 4.  Use a portion of one of this week’s scripture texts in a process of praying the scriptures (see p. 47).

What is the prayer of your heart?

Words from The Word:  Between three and six o’clock in the morning Jesus came to the disciples, walking on the water.  -Matthew 14:25, GNT

This Week…

Lectionary Texts:

Audio Lectio:  Pray the scriptures from Matthew 14:22-27.

Spiritual Tools:  Practice sacred reading with Lectio Divina.

Pray for:  the people and countries of Canada and the United States.  Share your prayer in the comments area.

Balance seems to be one of the spiritual disciplines that we often have difficulty practicing in our modern culture. Today, at least in America, we seem to be a people of extremes. We are encouraged to give 110 percent of ourselves to everything we do. We are always plugged in to what’s happening around us. However, that doesn’t leave much time or space for us to tune in to what is going on inside of us.
